Tell us about your background, and what are you most passionate about?
I'm a real problem solver. I graduated from Imperial College London as an Electrical & Electronic Engineer. I'm half Malaysian and was born in HK. With such diverse background, anything challenges me inspires me. Several years ago I remember my client even asked me to help out with his kids' homework. Of course I had to handle the client's IPO project as well.
Describe a time you had to make a tough decision (e.g. budget cuts, organizational restructuring, market withdrawal, etc.). What did you do and what was the result?
I always have a vision in terms of my life, work and family. What you do have to be good for your environment. As such, there is only a few limited decisions you make that can make most people happy and that's when creativity comes into place.
How would others define your communication style? Do you prefer to be close to your employees or maintain a healthy distance, and why?
I can only tell from my perspective to be honest. So things have to be carefully crafted before it is communicated. To me attention to detail makes a lot of difference, being a good listener also requires a lot of training.
How has the industry been changing in recent years? What do you think are the biggest challenges your industry will face in the next 5 years?
As said our industry has been evolving since the last century. HK has become the top IPO destinations for a number of corporates and this is the result of a lot of hard work. We all have to keep evolving in order to survive. Who knows what the future will bring us!
What personality traits make a good leader?
Everyone is a leader in their own field if they excert their uniqueness. As such, I believe in collective thinking and team work when it comes to solving problems.
What does the future hold for your company?
A lot of opportunities actually.
At a certain point in time, a corporate ( together with their stakeholders, including, lenders, existing shareholders) will need the capital markets for expansion purposes.
I have listed companies from the PRC, Japan and Malaysia to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and have done deals which no one has done before. So let me know if you have any creative ideas. I will be happy to discuss.
