MDN Capital Ventures Limited is a advisor to early stage private companies. The scope of the business includes structuring, regulatory understanding, business development and capital raising. Predominantly work with technology companies looking to expand their businesses into Asia, although increasingly helping Asian businesses expand in Europe.

Tell us about your background, and how you came to found your company?

Worked in finance since 1997, initially in research before moving on to portfolio management with Richmond Asset Management and then ING. The founders of the company came together at our previous company before forming Mandarin Capital Limited in 2012 which focused on Asset management. In 2016, we started getting a number of requests from overseas technology companies through our UK office to assist them in coming out to Asia which led to the birth of MDN Capital Ventures Limited. We have since helped AI, Medtech, Martech, Fintech, Robotics and dental companies with their development.

What is most important to you and your organization – mission, vision, or core values? Why?

the client is most important to us. Without them we are nothing. We therefore look to offer our clients very personalised service which results in us only working on a limited number of projects at any one time to ensure our clients get our undivided attention.

Can you explain briefly how your service(s)/product(s) works?

As each client has a different need/requirement, we sit down with each client and tailor an agreement in accordance to what they are looking for, whether it is to raise capital, develop their business, structure the business to appeal more to investors, or understanding the regulatory environment. Once the scope of work is agreed, we agree to a fee schedule that works for both parties.

How has the industry been changing in recent years?

With increasing liquidity in the markets and lower risk appetites it has become harder for very early stage companies to raise capital which has meant they have had to be more creative in terms of building their businesses.

What makes you different from what’s currently available in the market?

We are very focused on what projects we work on. We accept we have limited bandwidth so therefore only take on projects that we believe we can help our clients with. With our client focused approach we have no menu of fees as each project is priced according to scope. Most importantly, however, is that we only take on projects where we will work with the company for the long term.

What does the future hold for your company?

We are excited for the business going forward as some of our early clients mature and go through later round growths. With our growth tied in to some extent with our clients growth this makes the future very exciting for us.
